The Book of Ruth is a dynamic Seeds of Faith ministry and ensemble whose founding members are primarily Indigenous men and women with ancestral ties to the First Nations and Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island, now known as the United States. Produced by the World Alliance of Indigenous Peoples, the group brings together a rich and distinctive blend of cultural music, jazz, gospel, R&B, club, house, and neo-soul to create a sound that is both authentic and uniquely its own.
More than entertainers, the members of The Book of Ruth are music preservationists, cultural advocates, and voices for Indigenous rights and the protection of Mother Earth and Water. Through powerful performances, the ensemble seeks to raise awareness of the social and economic disparities affecting Indigenous communities around the world while inspiring audiences to embrace healing, self-care, self-love, unity, and personal empowerment.
The group's mission is rooted in the belief that meaningful change begins within. By encouraging individuals to practice self-care and self-love, The Book of Ruth promotes the importance of healing and overcoming personal obstacles as essential steps toward developing the capacity to genuinely love, support, and care for others.
When asked to describe The Book of Ruth, founding member Sadanyah Flowing Water shared:
“The Book of Ruth's journey is not a religious one. Instead, it is a cultural, holistic, and conscious approach to facilitating diversity, inclusion, and community building. We are grateful for all of the support we have received over the years. Our concerts have always been well attended, and our music valued. We are not just entertainers, but oral traditionalists with a unique perspective and story to tell.”
Book of Ruth concerts and live performances are produced by the World Alliance of Indigenous Peoples. Over the years, founding members and featured singers have brought extensive professional experience to the ensemble, including lead roles in award-winning Broadway productions, national and international commercials, audiobook narration, television and film productions, international music tours, New York City Fashion Week, and publishing.
Because many Book of Ruth members maintain active and accomplished professional careers, the ensemble operates with a rotating performance schedule. As a result, not every member may appear at every concert or live performance. This flexibility allows members to pursue professional opportunities while remaining connected to the ensemble and its mission.
The Book of Ruth embraces a simple but meaningful philosophy: “Once a Book of Ruth member, always a Book of Ruth member.”
At its heart, The Book of Ruth is a family. Its culture honors the individual journeys, careers, and accomplishments of its members while ensuring that they always have a place to return to. No matter how far their paths may lead, The Book of Ruth remains a creative home where their voices, stories, talents, and contributions will always be valued.
